“Ask for divorce” is simply semantics, but in most cases, no, a divorce isn’t “asked for” but rather, declared, stated, filed, on the table, however you want to put it. Some people who have affairs have thought about divorce for a long time. Others never even considered divorce. My first video on this topic posted reasons I hear in my sessions. Part 2 shares viewer responses that add to the reasons that often times, having an affair and having the level of marital unhappiness that would lead to divorce are two very different things. And, that there are many deterrents to divorce that make it an extremely difficult decision and action for myriad reasons. Remember that none of this makes affairs okay — we are here to gain insight into the reality of what can and does happen. Talking about affairs doesn’t cause them, and in fact, when we have information we are more likely to act with greater forethought and consideration.
