Tutorial: Ariana Grande's Positions transition effect. Can be done in any standard editor - DaVinci, Premiere, Final Cut, Capcut, etc 1. Pick two different locations for your shots, one of which needs a foreground element that we'll call the "blocker". 2. With your tripod and a wide lens, shoot your subject and then shoot a clean plate from the exact same spot. If you don't have a super wide lens, don't worry - covered in a later step. 3. In your editor, layer the shots with 42 frames of overlap (top layer to bottom: shot 2 blocker, shot 1 subject mask, shot 1 background, shit 2 subject mask, shot 2 background). 4. Where the scenes overlap, mask out your subjects and the blocker. Don't worry about having perfect masks because the motion blur will cover it during the spins. 5. Set the anchor/pivot point for all clips to the bottom center. 6. Rotate the Shot #2 background and blocker layers 180 degrees. 7. For both background layers, add keyframes during the overlap for rotation to get the spin and bounce back. (Table with keyframe angles in video - feel free to speed up or slow down the spins as you see fit.) 8. If your initial shots don't fill the screen during the spin, you can 1) zoom in; 2) duplicate and scale your background (we did this); 3) or use AI to expand the background (and this). 9. On your blocker layer, add keyframes for rotation and size/zoom so the blocker gets large enough to hide your subject during the spin. (Table with keyframe angles and size in video) 10. On your subject layers, keyframe opacity so your subject from Shot #1 disappears and Shot #2 appears from behind the blocker. 11. Add ease in-and-outs to all your curves along with motion blur to all rotations, and you're good to go!
